I WON’T BACK DOWN

In 1989, there was a popular song by Tom Petty and
the Heartbreakers titled, “I Won’t Back Down”. The title is a befitting declaration for any follower of Christ who is fed up with the present conditions of demonic activity in our society today. The catchy tune with ultra-simplistic lyrics depict taking a firm stand against today’s deceit, oppression, intolerance, and stupidity. As Christians, we should assume this same attitude that we will be resistant and victorious on the battlefield against all things that are anti-Christ. Here are a few random verses below:
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won’t back down
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down
Gonna stand my ground
…there ain’t no easy way out
In a world that keeps on pushin’ me around
But I’ll stand my ground
These are simple words, but direct. You can keep pushing me, while attempting to drag me down, but I
WILL NOT back down. For I believe God is our omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Father, who
works through His people because we are the custodians of His creation. I believe His Son, Jesus Christ,
died on the cross for the forgiveness of sins and salvation. I believe His Mighty Holy Spirit dwells in all
who declare Jesus as their Lord and Savior. So, If God is for us, who can be against us?
I am strengthened in God’s Word that is filled with His absolute truthful reminders to build me up and
prepare me for any difficult circumstance. Deuteronomy 31:6 says, And, 1 Corinthians 16:13 states, ““Be
strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will
not leave you or forsake you.” Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong.”
The power of His Might gives me the certainty and confidence needed, even when surrounded by the hell
of this world. When the odds appear to be against any of us, he has assured us we will be victorious---
“When you go out to war against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and an army larger than your own, you
shall not be afraid of them, for the LORD your God is with you, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt. And
when you draw near to the battle, the priest shall come forward and speak to the people and shall say to them,
‘Hear, O Israel, today you are drawing near for battle against your enemies: let not your heart faint. Do not fear or
panic or be in dread of them, for the LORD your God is he who goes with you to fight for you against your
enemies, to give you the victory.’ Deuteronomy 20:1-4. ESV
So, why would we entertain anything but victory through Christ? In your majesty ride out victoriously for the
cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; let your right hand teach you awesome deeds! Psalm 45:4.
We should not and must not back down.
